Spice Cake Quilt

It's been a long time since I made one of these quilt cards and I was prompted to do so because I wanted to update my "quilt ring" of DSP's that help me with the colors that co-ordinate them them.  While I do like pulling out my catalogue, it's much easier to look at the top-note quilt and check the back where I put the information of the DSP, i.e., catalogue, number, cost and co-ordinating colors.

More Mustard is one of the co-ordinating colors from the Spice Cake DSP in the Holiday Mini, so I used that as the base card.  The front is textured with the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder and the top note quilt is popped on the front with dimensionals.   The medallion is made with our new Simply Scored Scoring Tool (a must have!).  The centre of the flower is a Build a Brad.

This is the ring that I use to hold my samples. I have to admit I have been a bit lax in the the past while and need to add more to it.

On the back is all the information I need for quick reference.

Thinking of You in Wisteria

Here's a card we made at one of our club sessions where we dyed the 5/8" Organza Ribbon with the Elegant Eggplant stamp pad.  Cut a length of ribbon that will cover the front of the card with a bit to overlap in the back of the panel.  Place the ribbon over the stamp pad and hold a piece of sponge on the ribbon and pull it through.  For darker colors, you may want to do that a couple of times.

You can also color the ribbon by having a small amount of reinker in a small dish in the color you are dyeing the ribbon and place the ribbon in it to soak up the color.

The layer on the Elegant Eggplant base is the retired Bride Specialty paper (2009-2010 IBC) brayered with Wisteria Wonder classic ink.  The panels are Wisteria Wonder rolled through the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder and cut to mat over Elegant Eggplant strips.

We punched three of the 2 3/8" scallop circles and broke down the fibres in each of them by running them through the crimper several times and rubbing them until we were able to peel them apart.  Lightly spritz the pieces with water and scrunch them up.   When they have dried a bit, stack them together, peel back the layers and in this instance we used one of the Antique Brads (love those!) to secure the flower to the card.

We stamped the sentiment from Sincere Salutations with Elegant Eggplant classic ink and punched it out with the Decorative Label punch and sponged the edges with Eggplant.  Add a few dimensionals on the back of the piece and pop it on the card.

It's so gratifying to see my stamping buddies' papercrafting projects - and I love to share them with you too!

Ulla had purchased my Fabulous Florets tutorial and she used the Tea Party designer paper for hers.  Tea Party DSP was in the Spring-Summer 2009 IBC and I just loved that paper.

One of our first cards that we made in our current Stamp Club was the quilt card using the Top Note die and Pam showed me this card she made using that technique.  She also used the Lattice Square Embossing Folder on the layered piece over a Chocolate Chip base and the White grosgrain ribbon across the front of the card and she added a bit of her personal stash of bling.

Vintage Top Note Chest

Haven't made one of these chest of drawers for a while and thought I'd make one using one of the embossing folders.  I love the design of the vintage Wallpaper folder and decided to use it for this project.

The flower was made with the Fun Flowers die and also embossed with the Vintage Wallpaper.

After cutting the flowers and rolling through the Big Shot using the embossing folder, they were spritzed with a bit of water and scrunched up.  I left them to dry for a while and inserted a white brad in the centre.  On the top of the brad, a covering of Crystal Effects gives it a nice glossy look.

Makes a nice set to hold some of your precious jewellery (love my Pandora bracelet).

 

Along with stamping,  you know my other passion is golf and last week I was volunteering at the Canadian Junior Boys Golf Championship at the beautiful Morgan Creek Golf Course in South Surrey.  As Chair of Volunteer Relations, it was great to have family, friends and stampers also volunteer at the event.  On the last day, as we were just getting ready to close up shop Adam Svensson came by to pick up his bag and I managed to get this photo of him and my granddaughter Danielle who volunteered as a walking scorer at the tournament.  Adam is a bright young golfer from Surrey who has previously won back to back BC Junior Boys championships.

You're a Gem!

A neglected color in my color palette is Certainly Celery and it was a color that I used so often a few years ago.  So at our recent club session, we used Certainly Celery for the base of this card. 

The Perfect Polka Dot and Square Lattice Embossing Folders with some DSP adds texture to the card.

Cool Coasters

In our Stampin' Success magazine this month was an article on making coasters.  These are so much fun to make that I got carried away and made up a few.

The first one was made with the Love Letter Designer Paper (#117162, $12.50) - since I had just finished making the Mojo Monday card, the paper was still sitting out on the table and as I so love the design on this particular sheet made my first coaster using this paper.

I ended up making three and packaged it by tying some Cherry Cobbler seam binding around it and making a tag with the new Pretty Postage stamp set and layered it onto a punched Cherry Cobbler using the Postage Stamp Punch.

It goes well with my Mojo Monday card

Yesterday I played around a bit more and came up with these two designs.  This one has the large daisy cut from the Flower Daisies #2 die and glued onto a piece of Beyond the Garden DSP (#122342, $13.50) from the Summer Mini - you gotta get this DSP - it is so bright and cheerful!

I decided to try a personalized coaster and this is the result.  The DSP is the Sunny Garden DSP (#119831, $12.50) from the IBC.  I cut the initial on Old Olive card stock using the Serif Essentials Alphabet die.

Paisley Petals

A Not Quite Navy card with the Paisley Petals designer papers coming out on April 1.  A very quick card to make using the Scallop Square die, a mat of designer paper, a frame punched with the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Punch, some left over Whisper White that had been embossed with the Square Lattice Embossing Folder, a butterfly smothered with Dazzling Diamonds from the BLISS SAB stamp set and a bit more bling on the corners of the frame and it's done.

Cut a 3" square piece of cardstock and punch on all four sides using the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Punch and it produces a beautiful frame.

Lap of Luxury Flowers

 At our Big Shot class yesterday, one of the projects we made used the Flower Burst Embosslit and the Little Leaves Sizzlet.  We cut the Flower Burst using the solid Concord Crush sheet from Lap of Luxury DSP and then sanded them with the sanding tool.

Fun Flowers

 
These are definitely fun flowers especially when you use them with an embossing folder.   This is the fantastic new die "Fun Flowers" in the Occasions Mini on page 39, #121812, $43.95.

 
I wanted to use Elegant Eggplant since I haven't used it for a long while but couldn't decide what to put with it so I brought out my Color Coach to give me some ideas.  On the side of the Color Coach is a Dynamic Duo combination and this Dynamic combo is Elegant Eggplant and Perfect Plum and went for that and they certainly look good together.

After cutting the flowers from the die, I put them in the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder and ran them through the Big Shot.  Sponge a bit of Perfect Plum on the edges and work with the barrel of a pen, or marker and curl up the ends.

I had a piece of Very Vanilla that had been cut out with the Top Note die and run through with the Square Lattice Embossing Folder sitting on my table discarded from another project.  It looked like it would work well on this card and VOILA!   Using the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Punch (p. 201 in the IBC, #119275, $22.95) I punched out a piece of Elegant Eggplant and snipped the points to layer onto the middle of the Top Note piece.

Add a Vintage Brad to the centre of the flowers and one of the cute little Trinket Keys (p. 24, Occasions Mini, $7.95).  Finish the card with a sentiment from You're a Gem (p. 25, Occasions Mini, #122268, $17.95 WM, #22270, $14.95 CM).  Stamp it with Elegant Eggplant Classic Ink, punch out with the Oval Punch and sponge the edges with Perfect Plum ink and pop it up on the card with Dimensionals.

Don't you love this Poppy Parade In Color?  It's so bright and vibrant and what prettier than some butterflies in this color.   The inlaid embossing technique was used for this set of personalized cards - I cut the inlaid embossing piece in half and reversed the placement for two of the cards.  On the Poppy Parade background the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder is used for the other half and the 1/2" Stitched Poly Ribbon in Poppy ties it all together.
