Olive Medallion

Another card we made at our club featured the background Medallion stamp - love it!   There are so many possibilities that run through my mind but can only do one at a time - lol.

For this card, I wanted to use the wide striped grosgrain ribbon and while I toyed with using the Black and Vanilla (wouldn't that be gorgeous!), I settled on the Old Olive.  Old Olive is such a rich colour that can be used all year round and will be particularly popular for the holiday season.

How to put it together:

• Cut Old Olive card stock to 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" and fold in middle
• Cut Certainly Celery card stock to 5 1/4" x 4"
• Cut Shimmery White card stock to 5" x 3 3/4"
• Ink up brayer with Old Olive classic ink and apply to Medallion stamp
• Place Shimmery White card stock over inked up image and cover with a scrap of paper large enough to cover the Shimmery White card stock and burnish  with bone folder to get a nice even placement of ink on your Shimmery White
• Place paper piercing pad from the Mat Pack under your stamped image and position jumbo white grommet in centre of Medallion circle and push through
• Turn card stock over and smooth out prongs of grommet with bone folder, then layer onto Certainly Celery card stock with SNAIL
• Cut 6" of Old Olive 1 1/4" Striped Grosgrain ribbon and wrap around two layered pieces close to the bottom of the card stock and adhere with SNAIL on the back
• Cut 5" of Old Olive 1 1/4" Striped Grosgrain ribbon and tie a faux bow
• Adhere assembled piece to Old Olive card stock
• Place large half pearl from Pretties Kit in centre of grommet with a glue dot
• Thread three white pearls on hat pin and position in faux bow and cap with pin stopper (all from Pretties Kit)

You're done!

Autumn Splendor

Autumn is my favourite season and today is the first day of fall/autumn.  However, with the weather we've been having, you would think its the middle of summer and today is another gorgeous day in Beautiful British Columbia and if it weren't for the shorter days, it would be very hot in the evenings and uncomfortable for sleeping.  So its the best of both.

We had our first club session on Sunday for our September start and one of the cards we made used a stamp set and DSP from the Holiday Mini - Autumn Splendor (p. 12, #116503, $27.95) and Autumn Meadows DSP (p. 13, #116769, $13.25).

This is a clean and simple card made with a stamp set and DSP from the Holiday Mini - Autumn Splendor (p. 12, #116503, $27.95) and Autumn Meadows DSP (p. 13, #116769, $13.25).  Its ideal for a masculine card, which I generally find are a little more difficult to make as I'm so used to all those girly, flowery sentimental cards.

How to put it together.

• Cut Chocolate Chip card stock 5 1/2" x 8 1/2"
• Cut Taken with Teal card stock 5 1/4" x 4"
• Cut DSP 5" x 3 3/4" and cut into four even quarters
• Layer DSP on Taken with Teal flipping over two of the pieces
• Cut Chocolate Chip wide grosgrain ribbon to 7" and apply over the centre and adhere matted pieces to Chocolate Chip card stock
• Using Really Rust classic ink, stamp image onto 2 5/8" x 2 1/4" piece of Very Vanilla card stock
• Layer onto 2 3/4" x 2 3/8" piece of Taken with Teal card stock
• Punch two pieces of Chocolate Chip from Word Window punch.  Fold over about 1/3 of the length of punched piece and fold over the top and bottom with the 1/3" on top
• Use paper piercer to poke holes through word window pieces and cardstock and apply gold brads
• Place completed image onto centre of card with Dimensionals

Sweet Treats

I can't believe its over a week since I last posted because this week has just flown by!  September - when summer vacations are over, its back to school and back to a "regular" schedule - its the time when meetings, conferences, retreats and fundraising all start in earnest.  And the weather has been unreal!  Temperatures in the high 20's Celsius and thank goodness the overnight temp goes down to about 12 Celsius.  But what I like about fall is the crisp morning air and that's not quite evident yet but soon I hope.

This past week has been taken up with two fundraising projects that I'm working on - I don't usually have two at the same time but fortunately, one is just a week or so for the fundraising culminating with a Dunk Tank event this Friday - hope the weather holds up for that one.  The other is more intense and will be taking up most of my time until the end of the month.   In the meantime, I try to squeeze in time for stamping and on Saturday I had my Sweet Treats class and we made some adorable projects mainly with the Sweet Centers stamp set (page 6, Holiday Mini, #116521, $41.95), Treat Cups (page 7, Holiday Mini, #116802, $3.95 for 12 cups) and envelopes(page 7, Holiday Mini, #116911, 3 padded envelopes for $3.95).

Here's one that we made.

On this card we used Crushed Curry as the base and the layer of DSP is from Jackpot (page 162, #113995, $13.25).  Honestly, I have to say that I've had this DSP since it was first introduced last year and haven't been able to come up with something with which to use it but as I was going through my DSP's this one jumped out and I think the color goes so well with the Curry.

We stamped the petals from the Sweet Centers set in Real Red and the leaves in Old Olive and placed them around the cup filled with Smarties.  The opening for the cup is punched with the 1 3/4" Circle Punch (page 186, #112004, $22.95).   The sentiment is from Crazy for Cupcakes stamped in Real Red on Whisper White and punched with the Large Oval Punch and then layered on a Crushed Curry Scallop Oval and popped up with dimensionals.

The card is made with a backing that can be removed without spoiling it and beneath is this image from Eight Great Greetings (page 46, #113822, $36.95)  that you can see when the Smarties are gone.

Well, its almost time for the BMW Championship on TV and what's a Sunday without your sports programmes?  Tiger is leading!  Its been very exciting golf for the past two weeks during this FedEx Cup Championship with the final next week.  The BC Lions are also playing today in Montreal so it will be back and forth between the two events - lol.

Love Bug

This Level 1 Hostess set is so adorable and when I saw it my first thought was that its a wonderful set for baby cards to accompany the baby gift baskets that I make.  But the other images in the set makes it a versatile one for creating cards for other occasions.

This is my first creation with the set and, of course, I had to make a baby one.

I used the Elegant Bouquet Embossing Folder for the Whisper white mat on Bashful Blue card stock.  The baby carriage image is stamped on Whisper White and matted with Bashful Blue.  I used Bashful Blue, Barely Banana and Blush Blossom markers on the little bug and added Bashful Blue brads for the wheels.  Finished off the card with Blue Taffeta ribbon and added the sentiment from Short and Sweet.
