New In Colors

The new In Colors are absolutely stunning - rich bold colors with equally delicious names - Rich Razzleberry, Melon Mambo, Crushed Curry, Dusty Durango, Bermuda Bay and Soft Suede - hearing those names makes me want to dance the night away at a tropical location and dining on exotic food - lol.

What makes them super special this year is that there are co-ordinating markers!  How I've always wanted matching markers to handle those stamps that inking up with markers would make it more outstanding and now we have them!

There are always co-ordinating designer series paper and this year the patterns are equally as exciting as this year just completed.  One of the new ones is Razzleberry Lemonade and I got a chance to make this card using it.

 The card base is Melon Mambo - rich red/fuschia color similar to watermelon.   I paired it with So Saffron cutting both edges with the Scallop Edge punch and layered a piece from the Razzleberry Lemonade DSP on top of it.  On a new set called Razzle Dazzle, I coloured in the flowers with my Melon Mambo and Crushed Curry markers.  Using the Wide Oval punch, I punched out the top part of the flowers and placed it onto two Crushed Curry Wide Oval punched pieces.   The sentiment is from the same set stamped in Melon Mambo and punched out with the Word Window punch.  These were adhered to the card using dimensionals.   The card is finshed with So Saffron 5/8" grosgrain ribbon from SAB.

The next card uses the Upsy Daisy set with Crushed Curry and Razzleberry Lemonade DSP again.

Are you wondering how I got that "funny" shape on which the daisies are stamped?  I ran the Whisper White card stock on the Big Shot using the Top Note die.  I then rotated the top note die cut piece just a bit to the right of the point on the die and ran it through the Big Shot again and out came this shape.   You can see more more from Mary Jo Price-Williams here on creating fun shapes using the top note die.

I inked up the daisies with Crushed Curry and then using the Dustry Durango marker ran it over the top edges of the flowers making it appear like the "rock and roll" technique.  The sentiment is stamped in Dustry Durango and the edges of the die are sponged with the same color.  The shape is placed over layered pieces of the Razzleberry Lemonade DSP.

Great Friends

I felt that I had lost my mojo the past week as I couldn't get the creative juices going so I was MIA from my studio for all that time . . . but I feel it coming back as I held my annual Kiss Them Goodbye Open House yesterday for my friends and customers to stop by and pick up some super deals on many of my favourites that have been retired and today I got a chance to do a bit of stamping.  It was just what I needed as having the Open House kick started the creative juices and I feel my mojo coming back!

When I'm not stamping what better way to spend your time than with great friends.  Last week, I attended a fun evening at Donna O's for a potluck dinner and had a wonderful time renewing acquaintances with former co-workers, some of whom I hadn't seen for many, many years.  What a potluck dinner it was - I don't think a catered event would have been as well done.   There were delicious appetizers, salads galore - broccoli, rice and vegetable, tossed greens with edible flowers, and so many entrees with paella, poached salmon beautifully presented, shrimp casserole, roast beef and turkey platters and of course the fantastic desserts - chocolate cake with a satin chocolate icing decorated with sugared flowers, fresh berry trifle topped with whipped cream, lemon squares, cheesecake, biscotti, cheese tray, and what else can I say (is your mouth watering yet?)  just a scrumptious feast!

What reunion doesn't call for pictures?  Amazingly I remembered to use my camera to capture some of our friends sharing a wonderful evening at Donna's and thanks to Pat for sharing some of her photos with me.

I couldn't end this post without a sneak peek of what's coming in the new catalogue in just three more days - but who's counting?   Jen has received some of her new toys and sent this picture of a top hinge card she made with this cute new set called Animal Crackers (love it and gotta have it!).

Jen used Dusty Durango for the top hinge portion of the card.  She layered the Tall Tales designer paper over Melon Mambo and used the Scallop Edge punch on both pieces.  The sweet elephant is stamped in Soft Suede on Whisper White, layered over Soft Suede card stock and placed over the Soft Suede 1/2" Polka Dot grosgrain ribbon - yes! with dimensionals. The brad is punched through the three layers of cardstock to create the hinge to swing up the top part of the card.   When you pull up the top part of the card, she stamped the word "Adorable" from Warm Words on the main card stock in Soft Suede.  A super card, Jen.

Rockabilly Box

Another fantastic set of designer papers leaving at the end of the month.  Rockabilly has a glossy sheen  and is almost of card stock weight making it easy to create boxes, using it with the matchbox die etc.

I saw this box on Dianne Shiozaki's blog here and this is what I came up with.  I used the Rockabilly DSP for the box and for the outer lid I used Walk in the Park DSP (its also going too - sob, sob).  On the top of the box I stamped the Flowers in Silhouette stamp (under $12 on page 208 - and yes, its also toast) in Real Red, stamping it fully inked and then stamping another image slightly over without reinking the stamp.  I cut it out with the Large Oval Punch and then placed it onto two Real Red pieces also punched out with the Large Oval.  The scallop circle was cut from the Scallop Circle #2 die, using the larger scallop circle, with the Big Shot.  

Four note cards with envelopes fit comfortably in the box - you can probably put in six cards and envelopes - and makes a nice gift.  The cherry stamp is from the Tart & Tangy set (this one is staying!) and is coloured with Real Red and Old Olive markers and cut out with the 1 3/8" Circle Punch and then mounted onto a Scallop Circle Real Red piece.  The sentiment is stamped in black from Best Wishes and More.  This was a fun project to work on.

Have you noticed that in trying to access some sites that you visit regularly , occasionally it comes up saying that Internet Explorer cannot open the site.  I'm not sure whether its because of the different versions of IE as I understand that the newer version (IE8) may be the issue.   However, I keep trying and sometimes I make it onto the site and its like yabba dabba do - I got on!

Japanese Doll

Is this not the cutest little doll you've seen?   I've seen several postings of these adorable dolls that I had to try my hand at it.  They are so darn cute that I need to spend time making more.

I used the retired Haiku DSP to make her kimono as the colours look very Asian but she would be pretty in any colour combination.

A very short post so I can get back to the craft table to have more fun!

Bye, bye Lovely Labels

I'm so sorry to see Lovely Labels (page 141, #115028, $17.95) leaving the catalogue at the end of this month.  Do you find you can never have too many sentiment stamp sets, particularly, like this one that is decorative and can be used with various punches.  There are four stamps (Thank You, Enjoy, Baby, Laugh) in this set and here are samples using three of them.

Not only is Lovely Labels leaving but also Wild About You (page 73, #11510, $30.95) so I combined both sets for this card made in Whisper White and Pink Pirouette.  Wild About You is so versatile as you there is no age limit for creating the cards using this set - ideal for baby cards, cute for toddlers and young children and super for adults.   I'm missing it already!

I used Sweet Always DSP with Pumpkin Pie and Whisper White card stock for this card and punched out the sentiment stamped with Tangerine Tango with the 1 1/4" square punch and matted onto a Scallop Square Punch of Whisper White.

Raspberry Tart DSP (have to admit that it took me a while to get used to this DSP, but once I did, I love it), on Kiwi Kiss card stock with a strip of Pink Pirouette in the centre of the card was used for this sample.  The sentiment was stamped with Kiwi Kiss ink, punched out with the 1 1/4" Circle Punch and matted onto a 1 3/8" Circle Punch Pink Pirouette piece and then Regal Rose Scallop Circle and mounted with dimensionals.

Tea Party Gift Set

What a pleasant surprise I received last weekend when I opened up my email and found pictures of this beautiful project from Ulla.

She had recently attended my Fifth Avenue Floral Class and after receiving her latest order with her stash of designer series paper, she made this gift for Janice using the Tea Party designer papers using the same template with an added twist and created her own cards.

I'm sure Janice was pleased as punch to receive this gorgeous hand crafted gift, don't you think?

Thoughts and Prayers

At our Sunday class for masculine cards, one of the cards we made used Thoughts and Prayers - yes - I do love this set and it took me a long time to get it.

The card uses Kraft card stock and the vertical layered pieces are Chocolate Chip and Parisian Breeze Textured DSP.  The tree is stamped with Chocolate Chip on Whisper White and matted onto Kraft card stock and Chocolate Chip.  The two Chocolate Chip brads are from the 5/16" Jumbo Brads.

When the class was over, I made another card using the same layout but with a different colour palette.  The card stock is Real Red and vertical layers are Basic Black matted with Pink Flamingo DSP.  On this tree image I used Black, Real Red and Cameo Coral markers.   The image is stamped in black.

Different strokes

I posted samples using the gold embossing watercolour paper flowers (don't know the name of the technique) on the crimped envelope yesterday and today I'd like to share the same technique that I used with the large rose from the Fifth Avenue Floral set.

Here is a card made using the reinker water colour method created by Crystal French. 

The two techniques look very similar with the differences being:

1.    Gold Emboss uses:  Water colour paper, Markers, Gold Embossing Powder

2.    Reinker Water colour uses:  Shimmery White paper, White Embossing Powder, Reinkers

They both use the aqua painter to blend in the gold emboss technique and to apply the colour for the reinker method.

Crimped Envelope

At the vendor fair of the Stamp out Breast Cancer fundraiser, I had the opportunity to visit at the other vendor booths and saw some very exciting techniques that could be adapted to using SU products.  On this criimped envelope, the flowers were made using a technique that was being demonstrated that used gold stickers, markers and an aqua painter.  You separated the image from the sticker and applied it to watercolour paper.  Using water based markers, you created pools of colour within the gold lines and then used an aqua painter to draw out the colour.  The demonstrator then covered the coloured portions with a Glaze pen (very cool!).

On SU water colour paper, I stamped the small flower images with Metallic gold ink and then embossed with gold embossing powder.  I moistened the paper with the aqua paiinter and then coloured in with various markers and then worked the colours together with the aqua painter.   The Glaze pen was so cool that I had to purchase one and so finished the flowers by running the pen over the coloured portions of the flower.  It is very subtle but gives it a sheen.

This is the completed envelope.   I used a medium white envelope and sealed the flap down, cut 1 1/2" from the top.  Using a background image from the Itty Bitty Backgrounds stamp set, I used Regal Rose and Lavender Lace ink to stamp on the envelope and top.  I fed the bottom part of the envelope through the crimper and added the flowers to the front with dimensionals.   The Satin white ribbon was pulled through the Regal Rose stamp pad - isn't it beautiful?  So easy to customize this ribbon to the colour you want.

I cut a piece of Lavender Lace card stock to fit inside the envelope and matted with Whisper White and stamped the sentiment with Regal Rose ink.  Makes a nice thank you note presentation.

Stamp Out Breast Cancer Fundraiser

Over the May 29th weekend, I was invited by my upline, Alison Solven, to participate in a weekend fundraiser for Breast Cancer at the beautiful Granville Island Hotel.  During the weekend, there were classes as well as a vendor fair and Stampin' Up! was represented by Alison, Sue Farrant, Rhonda Jackson and myself. At our booth, we had many samples of cards and 3-D items and we also had a make and take for the folks stopping by our booth.

The make and take is a book mark using the design I swapped at Seattle Regionals recently.  We had the card stock and DSP made up for the book marks and everyone who made them got a chance to use the Daisies die to cut out the little daisy.  Were they impressed?  Yes, they were!

Here are samples of the ones that I had prepared for the make and take although we didn't get a chance to use them all.

 The top left used Basic Black card stock and Pink Pirouette dsp. 

The top right uses Basic Gray card stock and Tea Party dsp.

The bottom left uses Riding Hood Red card stock and dsp

The bottom right uses Tempting Turquoise card stock and Rainbow Sherbert dsp.

The daises were cut using the smallest daisy from the Flower Daisies #2 die on the Big Shot and the circle in the middle cut with the 1/2" circle punch.
