Beautiful Butterfly

At our stamp class on Sunday this is one of the cards that we made using the Big Shot (love, love, love it) and the exclusive SU! Beautiful Butterflies die (page 196, #114507, $25.95) with the free SAB Delicate Dots DSP and So Saffron ribbon from the free SAB Ribbon Bundle.

 The base card stock is Whisper White layered with a piece of Delicate Dots DSP and scalloped at the bottom with the Scallop Edge punch.  A smaller piece of the DSP is placed on the top of the saffron DSP and a length of the ribbon is tied around the middle.  We ran the two different pieces of DSP through the Big Shot using the two small butterflies on the die.  We layered them and attached it to the ribbon and curled the wings with a pencil.

The sentiment is from the new Oval All stamp set featured in the Occasions Mini catalogue that comes out tomorrow, April 1.  That was stamped on Whisper White and cut out with the Small Oval punch and layered on a piece of So Saffron card stock cut out with the new Scallop Oval Punch also in the Occasions Mini.  It is popped up on the card with dimensionals.

Top Note Quilt Card

What a super way to use up bits and pieces of DSP with this Top Note quilt card.  The squares are punched out with the 1 1/4" square punch and glued onto card stock and then run through the Big Shot with the Top Note die.  A colourful card that doesn't take too much time to put together.

The quilt was made with Rainbow Sherbet DSP on a layer of Apricot Appeal.  The centre of the Scallop circle was punched out of the DSP and dimensionals on each layer of the circle.  A turquoise brad in the middle and pierced scallops completed the scalloped circle over a length of apricot grosgrain.

Black Tie Note Card Set

I have finally finished this note card set after having made the box about a couple of months ago, I couldn't find the right "accessories" to complete it.  I wanted to make a set of note cards in black and white and got as far as putting the box together and that was it.  It lay on the table with so many of my other "in progress" projects.

With the new DSP's in the current catalogue, there were some sets that had some black and white paper and things started to come together.

The box holds regular A2 size cards.  The base is black card stock and the top is white with scalloped edges using the - what else - scallop edge punch - lol.  I layered black and Kiwi Kiss on the top and decorated with daisies from the Flower, Daisies #2 die (page 196, #114520, $23.95) cut with the Big Shot.  I punched a 1" circle of black card stock for the centre of the large daisy and used the centre of the large daisy cut out from the die for the smaller one.  A corduroy Kiwi Kiss button completed the daisies.

 I made 6 cards to fit in the box with medium envelopes.  On the Whisper White card stock is layered a piece of Kiwi Kiss card stock.  I cut a section of the DSP from Rockabilly Specialty DSP (page 158, #114039, $13.95) and a piece of black card stock to adhere to the Kiwi Kiss card stock.  A length of Kiwi Kiss satin ribbon was placed in the middle.   I stamped the initial "D" from the Lovely Letters alphabet set (page 148, #115030, $50.95) in black on Whisper White and punched out with the 1 1/4" Circle punch, layered it on a black piece punched out with the 1 3/8" Circle punch and placed it on a Kiwi Kiss scalloped circle and pierced the scallops with the paper piercer.  This was placed on the card with dimensionals.

While it took a long time to complete this, it got more exciting as all the accessories came together and I could actually have one less unfinished project.

I'll Take Manhattan

About three years ago, Jen and I visited New York in the spring and it was a very busy week as first time visitors to The Big Apple.  Every day was a sight seeing day as we went to the usual tourist attractions riding the double decker buses.  It was an experience to go to the Empire State Building, visit Ground Zero, Chinatown (we'll never forget our experiences in Chinatown), taking the subway to Yankee Stadium for an afternoon baseball game between the Yankees and Seattle Mariners, Jen's home team, and being in the crowd at the Today show on our last morning there and seeing Faith Hill perform.  It was a fabulous week and over all too soon.

Whenever I use the Manhattan Textured Impressions die it brings back fond memories of that visit.  This is the card we made at club on the weekend.

 The main card stock is Basic Gray, layered with Whisper White and Going Gray card stock.  We ran the die through the Big Shot using Almost Amethyst card stock.  All corners of the card stocks were trimmed with the corner rounder punch.  The fabulous friend stamp is from a new set that will be coming out on April in the Occasions Mini and it was cut out with the new Scallop Oval punch also available on April 1.  The flower on the image was coloured in with Almost Amethyst, Pretty in Pink and Barely Banana markers.  It was placed over a length of White Organza ribbon with dimensionals

Red Eastern Blooms

This past week has been like a whirlwind - lots of activity and am happy to say that most of it was for stamping!   Prepared for a private session on Thursday, a workshop on Saturday and club today.  It feels good to spend time in the studio and play with all the goodies and particulary our club sessions.  I really enjoy stamping with my friends and we have such a great time after the session enjoying the refreshments provided by the hostess for the month. 

With all the new dies that have arrived - there's still two that I haven't been able to play with and one that is still in its original wrapper.  Have to remedy that very quick next week.

Among the packages of DSP that arrived was Pink Flamingo and what gorgeous bright colours.  I was so gung ho to use it on a card and have to laugh when I ended up just using a small strip on this one. 

The card stock is 12" x 12" textured Real Red.  I scored 1 1/2" from the fold and attached the strip of DSP.  Got to use three white Jumbo Brads, the 5/16" size (page 174, #112534, $9.50) on this strip and then adhered it to the card to form a hinge.  I stamped one of the flowers from the Eastern Blooms set in Real Red on Whisper White card stock and punched it out with the Curly Label punch from the curly Label Punch Bundle (page 185, #112966, $39.95)  The black swirl image is from Yummy (SAB) and I used the Stamp a ma Jig to line it up.

The main card stock is Bashful Blue, layered with Whisper White and Delicate Dots DSP.  The corners of the White and DSP have been punched with the Ticket Corner punch (page 184 #107214, $8.75).  The flower has been stamped with one of the images from Sweet Stems (page 99, #113726, $19.95) and coloured with Bashful Blue and Certainly Celery Markers. The image from Yummy was stamped on a piece of Whisper White with in black and I attached three brads from the Soft Subtles brads (page 174, #106954, $10.75).  The flower was cut out with the Small Oval Punch (page184, #107304, $19.95) and placed on a piece of Bashful Blue card stock cut out with the Large Oval Punch (page 184, #107305, $19.95) then placed on the card with dimensionals.

Manhattan Flower

Whoever said that Christmas is for kids must have been someone who didn't know a Stampin' Up! demonstrator.

It felt like Christmas yesterday when I got some new toys to play with and among them was the Manhattan Flower Textured Impressions Die (page 202, #114517, $9.50).  If you have a Big Shot, and you don't have this die yet, it has to be on the top of your Wish List!  If you don't have the Big Shot that could also go on your Wish List to use with all the wonderful exclusive SU! Sizzix items.

Here is my first card made with the die.

I used Vellum card stock with the die and it turned out beautifully.  The rest of it came together quickly.  I've been wanting to do a card with Basic Gray and this was the card to use it.  So my main card stock is Basic Gray layered with Whisper White and a piece of Urban Oasis DSP (page 161, #113978, $11.75).  On top of that I placed the Manhattan Flower vellum piece and attached it with tiny amounts of SNAIL at the corners. 

I wrapped a length of that gorgeous White Organza Ribbon (page 179, #114319, $7.95)  around the top three layers and overlaid it in the centre with Basic Gray Taffeta Ribbon (page 179, #109064, $8.95).  I threaded a small piece of the White Organza Ribbon around the ribbon layers to form the bow.  Through the bow I threaded a hat pin with pearls, a clear beads and clear teardrop pieces from the Pretties Kit (page 175, #109114, $36.95).  I completed the card with two half pearls at the bottom of the card.

Back to the play room to break in all the other new toys!

Branchless to Branching Out

I'm out in the backyard several times a day with Bella and a couple of weeks ago when we got a skiff of snow, I actually noticed our neighbour's tree totally branchless, being in its winter dress, with the little bird house in its branches.  When you're always outside and looking around and you see this every day, you take it for granted.  I had just received the Branch Out set  (page 100, #113200, $26.95) and then it twigged (pardon the pun) on how similar the tree looked to the one in the set and the little stamp with the bird house!

Well the snow's gone and it was sunny out yesterday and it made me think of all the cherry blossom trees that will soon be in full bloom - I hope.  Driving down Granville Street in Vancouver the street is lined with cherry blossom trees and it is such a beautiful scene.  They are so full of blossoms and then they will start falling to the ground covering it with blankets of pink cherry blossoms.

 

My card is Pretty in Pink with layers of Regal Rose and Whisper White.  The blossoms are three shades of pink - Pink Pirouette, Pretty in Pink and Regal Rose with Amethyst butterflies fluttering around the tree.  I tied a length of Pink Taffeta Ribbon on the narrower mat and threaded a ribbon slide from the Styled Silver Hodgepodge Hardware (page 175, #111325, $36.95).

Branch Out is such a versatile set to be used with the changing seasons and different stages of foliage.  A great set to have!

A Kiwi Day

Thank goodness the sun is out and shining brightly into my office!  This second blast of winter is very depressing, not because of the snow as there has been very little but because of the bitter cold.  I don't do cold very well - on the other hand - I don't do hot too well either - lol!   I like the nice moderate temperatures which is usually the norm in our beautiful province.    All it takes to perk me up is a little sunshine and that's what we've got today and I'm happy!

The idea for today's card started off with the Kiwi Kiss Satin ribbon - I initially thought of doing three squares weaving the ribbon but when I started measuring, realized that it would be too big to get the size that I wanted.  So after playing around with the width of the ribbon, I ended up with one square of  weaved ribbon.

The weaved square was finished but what was I going to do with it - lol!   I finally decided to use it as a flower pot/planter and this is the result.  The card is black card stock with a piece of Kiwi Kiss and Very Vanilla edged with the Eyelet Border Punch.  With the punched edges facing each other it makes a nice design down the card.  The flower image is from Dream a Little (Level 3 Hostess set) and has been coloured in with Pretty in Pink and Certainly Celery Markers.  I wrapped a piece of the satin ribbon around the Kiwi Kiss card stock. 

As Kiwi Kiss is one of the In Colours that will be ending with the expiration of this catalogue in July, be sure that you have a supply on hand if its one of your favourites.  Make a list of all the In Colours you wish to keep be sure to order them by June 30 - it seems like a long way off but, believe me, time flies!

Pleated Ribbon

The Good Morning Sunshine DSP has two sheets with pear designs and they are are beautiful in Kiwi Kiss and Summer Sun.  This designer series paper works with the Cheep Talk so well not only with the birds but with the pears.  I can definitely see using the branch and pears for some Christmas cards (partridge in a pear tree).

I learned this new technique today from a super stamping group, SUDSOL, using ribbon to form pleats.  I remember wearing pleated skirts when I was young and particularly ironing them - what a job!  This wasn't as time consuming but it did take a bit of time folding all the pleats.

I used Kiwi Kiss as the main card stock and then layered half the card with Chocolate Chip and the bottom half with one of the pear patterns from Good Morning Sunshine.  To form the pleats on the card, I put a strip of Sticky Strip along the middle of the card and then started the pleating with a little fold over on the left hand side and then folded the ribbon over in pleats to the right hand side.  With each pleat I pressed the ribbon onto the adhesive to make sure that it adhered solidly to it to stay together.  At the end, I attached a small Kiwi Kiss corduroy button with a dimensional.

I had some leaves that I had run through the Big Shot in Kiwi Kiss and added those under the scalloped image of the pear.  The stem is stamped in Chocolate Chip and the pear in Kiwi Kiss.  This piece is cut out with the 1 1/4" circle and matted to a 1 3/8" Chocolate Chip circle and then onto a Kiwi Kiss scallop circle.  As my pleats were so thick ( I made small pleats - lol), I stacked three - yes three! - dimensionals under the scallop circle because it was so high off the card to make sure it stuck to the card.

The sentiment was stamped with Kiwi Kiss on Whisper White and cut out with the Small Oval punch and layered onto a Chocolate Chip Large Oval and placed on the card with dimensionals.
