I've been making various samples with this bundle and so enjoy using the scallop envelope die with my Big Shot with this new DSP, that I made another of the cute little boxes that will hold note cards or a bag of treats. 

For this box, I cut four of the envelope dies with my Big Shot in Close to Cocoa cardstock and attached them together at the side tabs with sticky strip cutting off two of the tabs so that it is less bulky.  The bottom of the box is folded in to create the base and I cut an additional piece of Close to Cocoa 2.75" x 2.75" to make it a bit sturdier.  The sides are wrapped with the Candy Lane DSP and the flower is made using 1.25" Pink Pirouette Grosgrain.  I cut off a length of the ribbon and using the needle from the Crafter's Tool Kit and threaded with Linen Thread, I ran the needle along an edge of the ribbon with the thread and then pulling it together to form the circle and then tied it off.  The brown and pink felt flowers are from the Flower Fusion Too (p. 182, $17.95) and they topped off the ribbon flower nicely with the half pearl from the Pretties Kit.  This was attached to the box with a Pop-Up Glue Dot.

 Here is a side view of the box where I punched out some hearts with the Heart to Heart punch using the Candy Lane DSP and attached to the side flaps of the box.

I made up five 3" x 3" note cards that fit into the box nicely to present as a gift.

Parisian Summer

At this moment, the word "summer" conjures up temperatures in the 30's Celsius, shorts, sleeveless tops, sunglasses and sipping a Starbucks venti blended Strawberry Lemonade , but, unfortunately we're looking at over a foot of snow in our backyard and mounds of it piled in front - yuck!  Not looking to the thaw that they say is coming in the next couple of days.

So, I thought I would use my Parisian Summer designer paper and to help me forget about the blanket of white outside.  From the light colour of Pink Pirouette to the strong Bravo Burgundy, it makes for a striking combination.  This is such a beautiful set of DSP. 

Here is what I came up with using this paper.

 

The box is made using Perfect Plum and the Parisian Summer paper.  The top is decorated with a mat of So Saffron cardstock and then a mat from the DSP. I cut a scallop using the Scallop Circle die with my Big Shot and cut out some scallop circles using the Scallop Circle Punch.  I cut out three of the scallops and then shaped them into a flower and attached with SNAIL on the top.  I have some of the Eggplant grosgrain ribbon (since retired) and wrapped it around the outside of the box.

 
I filled the box with the Hershey nuggets wrapped with the Parisian Summer DSP.  Isn't this an adorable way to package a gift?  You can also fill with mini note cards or a large cookie - just a super little box.  The box was originally designed by Jen del Mauro.

Love You Much

The co-ordinating colours with the Candy Lane paper are:  Close to Cocoa, Riding Hood Red, Pink Pirouette and Very Vanilla. This is my first sample:

I chose Close to Cocoa as the card base and layered it with Pink Pirouette.  I then cut three pieces of Close to Coco measuring 1.5" x 3.75" and cut three co-ordinating pieces from Candy Lane to 1.25" x 3.75" to mat onto the Close to Cocoa.  I stamped the Hugs and Kisses stamp onto Very Vanilla in Regal Rose and then punched it out the centre with the 1 1/4" Circle Punch.  I cut a piece of pink Candy Lane designer paper using the 1 3/4" Circle Punch and then matted both on a Close to Cocoa Scallop Circle.  The Scallop Circle is pierced in each scallop using the paper piercer and mat pack.  Using a blender pen, I ran it over the heart and it picked up the Regal Rose to fill in the heart colour.  A piece of pink taffeta ribbon completes the card.

In this sample, I cut the Riding Hood Red cardstock 4 1/4" x 11" and folded it to make a top fold card.  I matted it with a piece of the Candy Lane DSP.  Using the Big Shot and Envelope die, I cut out the envelope using more of the Canaday Lane DSP.  I stamped the heart image from the Love You Much set onto Pink Pirouette and Very Vanilla, using Riding Hood Red ink.  I cut them out and tucked them into the envelope.  I wrapped the red taffeta ribbon around the envelope and added the Hugs & Kisses sentiment from the All Holidays stamp set.  It is stamped in Riding Hood Red onto the matching pink DSP and layered onto a large oval Riding Hood Red cardstock.   Three brads at the bottom completes the card.

Blog Candy

Blog Candy Day!  I've got a couple of stamp sets and accessories that I would love to give you.  Simply leave a comment on my blog of some of your favourite Christmas things - family memories, favourite recipes or ?

I remember the huge family Christmas dinners we used to have, coming from a large family, 3 brothers and 8 sisters, it was always a wonderful time when we got together and the singalongs after dinner.  As we all branched out with our own families, and moving away from the family home, it became a bit more difficult to get everyone together but whenever we could manage to get several families together it was a wonderful time to reminisce.

In the past few years, we always start our day with a hearty breakfast of homemade waffles smothered in strawberries and whip cream, eggs, bacon that I dredge in flour before hitting the skillet, home made hash browns, toast, orange juice and a steaming cups of coffee!   May not be the healthiest, but its only once a year that we get to enjoy a leisurely breakfast together.   One of the other goodies that we particularly enjoy at this time of yeare are Mincemeat Bran Muffins.  They are so easy to make and you can keep the batter in the fridge for a few days and use as needed.  They are so moist and delicious.   Give this recipe a try.

MINCEMEAT BRAN MUFFINS

2 Eggs beaten

1 C. Sugar

3/4 C. Oil

1 C. Milk

1 C. All Bran

2 C. Flour

1 1/2 tsp Baking Soda

Dash of Salt

Mix all ingredients - then add 1 cup mincement.  Place in greased muffin tins or paper cups.

Bake 20 - 25 minutes - 350 degrees.

Batter will keep 1 week in fridge.

One last Christmas card to share with you.  The cardstock is Real Red matted with Whisper White and a piece of DSP from the I Wish Simply Scrappin' Kit.  I used the Join in the Cheer Decorative Strip Die cut out with the Big Shot on Whisper White cardstock.  I trimmed it down to use "Peace & Joy" and placed a Build a Brad in the letter "o".  I punched out a small snowflake from the DSP using the 1/4" circle punch to place in the BAB.

All Wrapped Up

What a perfect day to be indoors as the snow continues to fall and fall and fall.  Winter has certainly arrived today in Beautiful British Columbia where we are experiencing about 6 inches of snow so far.  At least in our area but its been a greater snowfall in many surrounding areas.  My DH goes out and shovel the walkway and a path for Bella to run around in the backyard and within an hour or so, there's more to shovel. 

Good opportunity for catching up on my gift wrapping and last minute preparations for Christmas.  I was going through my stash of bags - brown bags, white bags, gift bags etc and decided to decorate some of the white gift bags and its also a super way to use up some of the holiday DSP.

I got the idea of using the Top Note die from Andrea Walford for making these gift tags and love the layering of two top notes.  I cut out one in Whisper White cardstock and trimmed around the perforated edge and cut it in half to make two tags and also cut one from the Holiday Treasures DSP, cut it in half and used one side for one tag and flipped it over to use the other design on the other tag.  These were layered onto a Riding Hood Red top note.

I made a matching gift bag using the  Holiday Treasures DSP and Certainly Celery cardstock.  Don't you just love those Felt Flurries?  They add so much to a project.

I've Got Mail

Brrr!  Baby it's cold out there!  Could we possibly have a white Christmas?  Looks fairly certain that  it will as snow is still on the ground and more being predicted to fall tonight and into next week.  It's beautiful to look at but treacherous to drive in.  So, if you're out and about today - take it easy!

I just love receiving Christmas mail and all the lovely hand stamped cards.

   

Alison Solven sent this beautiful card using the Mr Twigster set from the Holiday Mini.  Alison has created such a beautiful scene with the trees glistening in the snow with the red ornaments and the moon in the background.  Alison is my upline and friend and has been a source of inspiration and support since I signed up as a Stampin' Up! demo with her about 4 years ago.

My friend Amber Walker made this beautiful card - such gorgeous detailed colouring on the Christmas bouquet of flowers.  Amber and I were co-workers and when I was doing workshops at our workplace she attended one and quickly embraced this craft and enjoys and makes lovely cards and projects and we'll soon be meeting at our Class of 2009 scheduled to start next month.

Kim Lee is a Stampin' Up! demo also with Alison's downline and she is such fun to be with.  Her card uses the Snow Flurries stamp set and accented with Night of Navy. 

Isn't this a stunning card?  My friend, Kathleen Yarema made this lovely card using Pick a Petal.  She cut out each of the petals and layered them to form the flower.  The background is stamped with Doodle This. The ticket corner punched corners of the Whisper White gives the flower a beautiful accent.  Since coming to an Open House about 3 years ago, Kathleen has been attending my classes and also signed up for the Class of 2009.

Stocking Stuffers

I was searching for Kleenex in my car the other day and found a package of card fronts that I made for a swap with our group about a month ago but I can't recall why I still had them - lol.  In any event, there they were and I wished that they were completed cards and not just card fronts. 

It is a 4" x 4" card with a Whisper White cardstock and Real Red as the accent colour.  The stamp set is from the Level 1 Hostess Set - Punches Three.  Wonderful images to use the Square Scallop punch.  Being 4" x 4", they could also be used as gift tags just by adding some silver or gold cord to a corner.

After looking at the card, it got me into a red and white kick and so I started to make some treat holders to use as stocking stuffers.  The first one I made uses the Pillow Box die.  I had purchased some acetate covers from a stationery store and made this treat holder with the Big Shot and Pillow Box die.  I found some Christmas Kisses that were perfect to put into the box and wrapped some Real Red Striped Grosgrain around it and mounted the same Punches Three image used in my card onto the holder with dimensionals.

The next treat bag has two peppermint patty treats that can either be used as tree ornaments or just treats to be enjoyed!  The snowman from Merry & Bright (a retiring set) is stamped on Whisper White and then punched out with the 1 1/4" Circle Punch.  It is layered onto a 1 3/8" circle and then onto a Real Red Scallop circle.  The snowman is coloured in with Real Red and Bashful Blue markers.  The back of the peppermint patty is covered with a Real Red Scallop Circle.    The ornaments have Dazzling Diamonds on the snowman.  The Medium Flat Cello Bags (p. 167, #102757) is the perfect size to hold the two ornaments.  The topper on the bag is Whisper White cardstock cut using the Top Note die on the Big Shot.  It was scored on the long side and fits perfectly as the topper on the bag.

 

The last one I made is simply filling one of the Medium Cellophane Bags with the Christmas Kisses and then topping it off with Riding Hood Red cardstock cut 4" x 4" and folded in half.  I used the Scallop Edge Punch on the top side and added a piece of the self-adhesive decorative die cut from the I Wish Simply Scrappin' Kit and added a felt flurry to finish it off.

 

 

By the time I finished making these, I'm not sure which held more of the treats, the bags or me - those peppermint patties are very hard to resist.  They're like eating chips - you can't stop at eating one!

Snow Swirled Again

Do you find that occasionally you have a stamp set that you use over and over even though there are stacks of other sets sitting on the shelf?  This Christmas, Snow Swirled is the set that I just keep using again and again. So here's the latest that I've come up with.

 

I call it my candy cane Snow Swirled card.  I have almost used up this beautiful red and vanilla stripe grosgrain ribbon and realized that I haven't used it with the tree so decided to make a very simple card.  I used Riding Hood Red cardstock cut 4 1/4" x 11" and scored at 5 1/2".

I layered a mat of 4 x 5 1/4" Very Vanilla on the Riding Hood Red and then stamped the tree and sentiment from the Snow Swirled set in RHR ink.  The grosgrain ribbon finished the card. 

Now off to make some fun things with the Big Shot.
