Embrace Life Bleached

 August 13, 2008

Hello Stampers,

What a busy time it is with the launch of the new catalogue and fantastic specials.  With this frenzy going on, I spent some time in my craft room to relax by making a couple of cards using the bleach technique.  I've always liked the look of bleaching out the colour from the cardstock but never seem to get around to doing it but, today felt like a good day to get out my supplies.  As usual, I couldn't find the Clorox bleach pen I had bought a while ago to use with this technique.  Never fails, I buy supplies to use, put it down in a room in the house – never in my craft room where it belongs – and, of course, it gets moved around and when I need to use it, I'm searching high and low to find it to no avail.  So I had to resort to pouring out some bleach from the big jug into a small container and not spill any.  I just know that I'll find it now that my cards are done.

Another way of applying the bleach is to fill the barrel of an Aquapainter with bleach and use the brush to apply.  You can dedicate a specific Aquapainter just for bleaching or if you want to use in the normal fashion for applying colour be sure to rinse out the bleach in the barrel and brush.  On my cards I used the fine tipped cosmetic "q-tips" and also a very fine paint brush.

In both cards, I used the Embrace Life stamp set.  I stamped the flower onto the Riding Hood Red with Versamark and then embossed with black EP.  I applied the bleach with the "q-tip" and it picks up the red from the cardstock to leave a yellow shade.  I punched out the image with the 1 1/4" circle punch and layered it onto a black circle using the 1 3/8" punch and put them on the card with dimensionals.  I stamped the greeting with Versamark and embossed with black EP.

In my next card, I used the other flower from Embrace Life and after lifting the colour from the cardstock it also left a yellow shade.  Kiwi Kiss (another new In Colour) looks so elegant with black and the designer paper from the Bella Rose complemented the card very well.

I used the new Scallop Edge Punch at the bottom of the image and decided to do some piercing around the other sides.

  1. Fantastic blog Dayanna! It was always lovely, but certainly has that certain something special now. (and I’m thrilled that despite being a blog, I can somehow still access it from the office … sssshhh)

  2. I just recently discovered your blog and it will be one I visit frequently! I had forgotten how lovely using bleach is, especially for flowers. And I have the Embrace Life stamp and have a thank you to make today. You’re a wonderful addition to my craft life.
