Sympathy Card

Hello Stampers,

Seems like I've been making more sympathy cards lately.  The most recent one is for a former colleague and friend whose mum passed away last week.  I also worked with her mum as we all worked at the same law firm for many years. 

I used Very Vanilla cardstock and embossed the flower image from Close as a Memory with gold metallic ink and embossed with clear EP.  I find that using gold metallic ink and gold EP gives a very strong gold colour but I prefer the softer gold tones with the clear EP.  I also embossed the sentiment from the retired Warmest Regards set.  The image and a piece of Brushed Gold cardstock were cut out using the coluzzle.

I finished off the card with some wide cream organza ribbon that has also been retired - I still have so much of the organiza ribbon as we did a ribbon swap just before the organza ribbons were discontinued.  C'est la vie!

Popsicle Card

Hello Stampers,

It's a perfect day to take a bite out of a cool popsicle or creamsicle!  My favourite flavours of popsicles, creamsicles, jello or life savers are lime and cherry.  Inspired by Patty Bennett, I made these two cards which are so adorable to give and very quick to make up.   Using the Tart & Tangy set from the Occasions Mini (it expires on June 30!), the images are perfect for my favourite flavours.  YUM!

On the lime creamsicle I dabbed White Craft ink at the bottom to show some ice cream peeking out of the icy lime.  Use the corner rounder punch on three of the corners and scallop punch on the fourth corner.  The Rub-Ons from SAB provided a nice simple sentiment on the front of the cards.  Add a piece of Whisper White cardstock inside to write your greeting and finish off with some ribbon.

Techniques Class

Hello Stampers,

At my techniques class over the weekend, one of the projects was the Chalk Lines technique that uses the pastel chalks.  It's a very easy technique that creates a striking image.  I used  two of the images from the Embrace Life stamp set and stamped on white cardstock.  Use either the daubers or a cotton ball and pick up the colour from the pastels.  In this instance, I used three colours as I had initially wanted to use Pretty in Pink and Regal Rose. The PIP was fairly pale so I added Rose Red to the mix and smooshed on the colour with the cotton ball.   When all the colour was applied, use a ruler and place at angles over the stamped images and drag the eraser from a pencil across thereby erasing some of the chalk.  Draw as many lines across your image to achieve the look you want.  On the small image, erase parts of the image to make the flower stand out.  Added the "for you" from All Holidays set and some white grosgrain to complete the card.

Pun Fun

Hello Stampers,

What a beautiful day it is!  The weather forecast has been for HOT temperatures starting today through to the weekend but it was difficult to believe that the forecast would be right as it was so dismal and dreary yesterday.  But it is very warm out there today and the sun is finding its way out of the clouds.

I needed some sunshine when I was making this card and it almost had me bringing out my sunglasses when I was putting it together.  These are colours that I very rarely use in my stamping although I do enjoy them.  It's like shopping for new clothes for me.  I go to the stores wanting to get some new and exciting colours, then walk out later with my usual black.  So when I started to put the colours together for the card, I almost reverted to my black and whites.  However, this little hippo from the Pun Fun set cried out for some vibrant colours.

As I was colouring the little hippo, it seemed that she needed a name.  Lulu Belle popped into mind and it seems appropriate to name her that.   I stamped the image on Whisper White and layered it onto a scrap piece of Summer Picnic DSP.  This was layered onto a piece of Yoyo Yellow and then edged with the paper piercer using the Mat Pack.  I used the Corner Rounder Punch only on two corners of Lulu Belle's image.   Popped these three layers onto the Pumpkin Pie cardstock which was layered with Yoyo Yellow and Pixie Pink with dimensionals.  The Pumpkin Pie Striped Grosgrain  (I wish SU! would come out with a black and white striped grosgrain - there I go again with my black and white - lol) around the card accented with the yellow and pumpkin grosgrain and ticket punch on the larger layers finished the card. 

This was a fun card to put together and I can't wait to make additional projects using the rest of the stamps in the Pun Fun set.

Look ma, no stamps!

Hello Stampers!

With all the super accessories that SU! carries - it is so easy to create cards without any stamps!  Yes, after looking at my stash of rub-ons and designer papers (and I do mean stash!), I thought I'd play around to see what I could do without using any of my stamps sets and here are two results.

Both cards use the rub-ons from SAB, the ones that came in a sheet of green, brown, white and black.  I love all the colours and couldn't decide but in the end the green won out.  Using Old Olive and Elegant Eggplant cardstock and a few brads, it was so quick and easy. 

Do you find that you have lots of little bits and pieces of designer paper lying around?  I now have a basket full of these bits and pieces and so I went through them to see if I could come up with something to make a card.  The Flowers for You set is lovely with spring time freshness in the colours.  The piece used on this card was just the right size to layer over the Amethyst cardstock.  Add a bit of the 5/8" grosgrain, put the rub-on to the ribbon, and punched out the square was again a quick and easy card to make. 

I need to go make up more of these and try to use up all my small pieces of dp.     I hope you enjoy these cards and that they may be an inspiration for you to come up with some cards using all accessories and no stamps.

It's a beautiful afternoon after a chilly morning but the back door is open and the kids are out from the nearby school and I can hear them playing at the playground.  I'm sue they're enjoying the warmer weather too!
