Hearts & Stars Decorative Masks

There’s a need for some thank you cards as Colin has been having a grand time spending time with his cousin, Cary, in Victoria and then with Susan and Tom on Keats Island this summer.  I brought out the Hearts & Stars Decorative Masks to make this one for Cary.

Just Sayin' Stars Decorative Mask

These masks come in four different patterns, one set is the Hearts and Stars and the other is the Dots and Stripes and priced at only $3.95 for each set. They are also very easy to use – just in regular stencilling, place the stencil/mask over your card stock and using the sponge daubers or sponges, apply your color. When you’re finished you can clean the mask either with a baby wipe or rinse off the color.   For this card, I used Cherry Cobbler.

The sentiment is from Just Sayin’ and cut out with the co-ordinating Word Bubbles framelits.

Kinda Eclectic

Have you used all the stamps in one set at the same time to make a card?  Very seldom do I actually use every stamp in a set but in this card, I used all of them.

Kinda Eclectic Meadow

I wanted to use Mossy Meadow but not having purchased the new In Color Color Coach (tsk! tsk!), I turned to the net to see what I could find to give me some ideas.  I came upon this site where I inserted the color Mossy Meadow and it came up with the combination of Mossy Meadow, Blushing Bride, Whisper White and Wild Wasabi.  It’s a great color combo!

With the large starburst image I decided to make a square card and am very pleased with the result.  What do you think?

Supplies:

Petite Petals

I received this new Tiny Triangles embossing folder a few weeks ago and am only just using it in this card.  So many lovely new embossing folders in this year’s catalogue and they are my favourite accessory.

Petite Petals Banner

The base card stock is Pool Party cut 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and scored at 4 1/4″.  The layered embossed Whisper White measures 5 1/4″ x 4″.  The flowers from Petite Petals are stamped with Pool Party on Whisper White and Pool Party card stock.

The sentiment from Lots of Thanks is stamped on Whisper White and then cut out with the Banners Framelits.  I used the Essentials Paper Piercing template to pierce the border of the banner.  This was layered onto a piece of Pool Party card stock also cut out with the Banners Framelits one size larger.

A length of Pool Party ruffled ribbon (retired) is placed around the centre of the embossed Whisper White layers and the banner focal piece was adhered to that.  A few pearls were added to the centres of the flowers to complete the card.

Beautiful flowers

It’s always great to receive samples of cards made by friends or my downline.  Today’s share is from Shannon, one of my team members, who signed up with me last year.  We had a meeting scheduled last week but unfortunately she came down with the flu, seems like it’s going around right now, but sent me photos of her swaps that she had prepared.

Shannon's Card Fronts_edited-1

She made her flowers combining Blushing Bride with Calypso Coral card stock and completing the flower with a Subtles Candy Dot.  I love the way she used the Banner Punch with the Banner Blast (SAB) stamp set to frame the flower.  The DSP is from the Regals DSP, sentiment from Itty Bitty Banners that were cut out with the co-ordinating Bitty Banners Framelits.  Shannon completed the flowers by adding a whimsical bow using the Crushed Curry Baker’s Twine.

Petite Petals Block Card

I really enjoy making cards with fancy folds and at a recent class we made this block card.

Block Card Black sv

It was so much fun making it and as I was finishing it off I thought it would be cute to add a tiny easel on the top block.

Block Card Black fvThe DSP is from Kaleidoscope which was featured in the Occasions Mini.  We stamped 24 of the flowers from Petite Petals and 4 butterflies from Papillon Potpourri in Melon Mambo.

Corner Garden – Weekly Deals

This is one of the gorgeous new background stamps in the catalogue this year, Corner Garden.  The card today combines two techniques, an easel card and spotlighting.  I remember learning the spotlighting technique when I first joined Stampin’ Up! and was so impressed, that it’s always been a favourite of mine.

Corner Garden spotlight

Here’s another view showing the easel.

Corner Garden spotlightsv

The Basic Black card stock is cut 4 1/4″ x 11″ and scored at 5 1/2″.  I positioned the largest of the Oval Collection framelits that has a scalloped edging on the folded card stock with the top of the framelit just slightly off the top of the folded portion of the card stock.  This provides the hinge for the card.  I then cut another single piece of black card stock to make the top layer.

The image is stamped on Whisper White with Versamark and I then poured the black embossing power of the stamped image and heat embossed with the Heat Tool.  This piece was then cut out with the second to largest Oval Framelits.  For the spotlight, I stamped the image again and then punched out a portion with the 1 1/4″ Circle punch.

I used a variety of coloring tools – Daffodil Delight and Old Olive Blendabilities, Blender Pens to apply the Melon Mambo and Blushing Bride/Pink Pirouette and Costal Cabana markers to add the color for spotlight image.  It was then layered onto a 1 3/8″ circle piece punched from Basic Black card stock and adhered together.  This piece is then positioned over the larger image and “spotlights” the beautiful colors.

To form the easel, the card front of the base card stock is scored at 2 1/2″.  Add the Whisper White stamped piece to the black front piece and then adhere it to the bottom portion of the card front.

On the inside of the card is another piece of Whisper White cut out with the second largest oval framelit.  A strip of Basic Black is punched out with Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border punch and then trimmed with the oval framelit.  It is then adhered to the white panel to portion a piece on which to rest the easel.

A greeting was not added so that when I have the need for a birthday, thank you or other special occasion card, I can add the sentiment at that time.
